Over the years Nubian Life has had the pleasure to have met and worked alongside many wonderful characters from the African community. When many people think about history, they think about dusty books and documents, archives and libraries, or remote castles and stately homes. In fact history is all around us, in our own families and communities, contained in the living memories and the experiences of African, African Caribbean Elders. We have only to ask them and they can tell us enough stories to fill a library of books.

Everyone has a story to tell about their life which is unique to them: some people have even been involved in momentous historical events like arriving on the SS Empire Windrush. Regardless of age or importance, we all have interesting experiences to share. More importantly, historical documents and books can't tell us everything about our past since often they concentrate on famous people and big events, and tend to miss out ordinary people talking about everyday events. They also tend to neglect people on the margins of society. Unfortunately, because memories die when people do, if we don't record what people tell us it we lose that history for ever.

In conjunction with our elders and to ensure that a legacy is left for the next generation, Nubian Life has created the following:

"Sorry no Vacancies" (Book)

"Clocking On"  (CD)

"Memories of a Generation" ©
