Nubian Life provides the following activities for it's clients:

  • Talking for Change - Citizen Peer Advocacy pilot - the first African Caribbean peer led project in the UK, which trains older people to advocate on behalf of their peers.
  • Being There - Befriending scheme - older people visiting housebound and hospitalised elders. Both of the above projects are operating in Charing Cross Hospital.
  • Life Long Learning Suite - a UK online centre. This operates as a franchise with Hammersmith West College. The suite provides opportunities for older people to improve adult literacy and develop basic computer skills, i.e. using word, excel and the internet and also computer equipment such scanners, web cams and digital cameras.
  • ESOL - the learning tutors provide an outreach service to African Nationals with refugee status, local community groups and the wider community.
  • Environmental projects - we currently have three gardening projects, which provide intergeneration volunteering and outreach opportunities: a mini fruit tree orchard, a herb & vegetable garden which provides locally grown herbs and vegetables for the centre's kitchen and clients and an allotment in the south of the borough that is currently being prepared for disabled access and the erection of a greenhouse.
  • My Community Intergenerational Volunteering Project - this project focuses on bridging the gap between old and young people through common interests. Projects to date include the Summer Computer project, where grandparents and their grandchild were taken on a range of field trips to places such as the Eden project, William Morris Museum and were then taught basic computer skills to type up their diaries.
