Our Mission is to “deliver culturally sensitive services primarily to the over 50s African & African Caribbean community with the emphasis on empowering elders to obtain the optimum levels of self-independence.”
Nubian Life Resource Centre is a successful provider of community care services to African-Caribbean elders living in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (LBHF) since 1982. We are situated on the white city Estate which is classified as one of England most deprived wards. We have successfully fundraised over the last ten years to extend our range of services which now include access to information and advice support, citizen advocacy and befriending schemes to support housebound and hospitalised elders in accessing services and being involved in their care plans. We also have active citizenship projects which enable older people to remain, involved in community life, such as:
Building effective and sustainable partnerships is one of our greatest strengths, which has led to significant organisational growth as we share skills, experiences and organisational cultures with our partners. This has enabled us to provide our elders with increasing choice. People often ask the secret for Nubian Life’s sustainability. The answer to this question is that Nubian Life takes a huge pride in its ability to harness the energies and creativity, which exist within African Caribbean elders. The organisation involves them in shaping and initiating services that significantly impact on the quality of their life. The organisation’s activities and achievements demonstrate this successful partnership. This partnership is based on a philosophy of trust and understanding that has been cultivated over the years. It underpins all our service delivery and activities.
Our dedication to clients, staff and volunteers has been recognised through us achieving Investors in People status as well as being awarded “The Queen Award for Voluntary Services 2003”. |
